Blog 11: EQ
1) I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ
2)
a) no; doesn't give room for very deep research
b) yes; it provides a framework, allows for a stance to be taken, and has a correct format
c) yes; it provides a framework, allows for a stance to be taken, and has a correct format
d) no; the EQ wouldn't allow for deep research to be conducted
3) What is the most effective way of improving patient care in America?

Blog 9: Lesson 1 Reflection
1) I am most proud that I already have a good understanding of what I'm going to say for my senior presentation. I'm proud of this because it means that I don't have to stress out about it.
2) a) I would give myself a P grade
b) I would give myself a P because I met all of the P consideration requirements and had good content in my presentation.
3) Rehearsing the night before to make sure that I met the time requirement worked well for me.
4) I would try to be less nervous. I would be more enthusiastic.

Blog 8 - Research and Working EQ
1. What is your working EQ?
What is the best way to improve patient care in America?
2. What is a possible answer to your working EQ?
Doctor's should have their patients participate more in their health care.
The government should encourage a more open market in health care.
3. What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
Where does it hurt - Jonathan Bush
4. Who is your mentor, or where are you doing mentorship, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?
My mentor is Alexis Berger and she supervises the Chaparral medical group in Claremont. My mentorship allows me to observe doctor interactions with their patients.

Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Approval
1) In order to gain more knowledge in the different aspects of healthcare and how the administration and economics of healthcare affect the quality of patient care, I'm planning on shadowing a close family friend that is in the insurance industry. She has strong credentials and knows the health insurance industry. Shadowing her would involve asking her questions in order to gain
insight on how the insurance companies operate, and would also involve
attending and helping out at health insurance promotion events.
2) To show evidence of 30 hours of work for the independent component, I'll show documentation of the different events that I'll be attending, as well as writing an essay that explains the current relationship between healthcare providers and insurance companies, and how this relationship affects patient care.
3) Gaining knowledge about how the insurance companies work with the health care providers, and learning the economics behind it will add depth to my understanding of what makes our healthcare system tick. The current healthcare system doesn't allow for very many consumer (patient) options, and a big part of that is because of insurance companies. This independent component will allow me to learn how insurance companies interact with health care providers, which will allow me to better analyze the current healthcare status.

Possible answer to my current EQ...
Health Care: Plain & Simple - "Patient Centered Care"
Patient centered care is an aspect of healthcare that I've been reading a lot about. As the video says, a lot of people and organizations are working together to fix the healthcare system so that it puts the patient first.

Blog 5 - Mentorship and Research Reflection
1) When I first started looking for a mentor I contacted local hospitals to see if i could mentor with them. Once I knew that I wasn't going to hear back from the big hospitals I looked to people that I already knew. I had the option to mentor two of my aunts; one is a physical therapist who lives in Anaheim and the other is a lab technician who lives in Ontario. However, a few weeks later I found out that one of my friend's relatives works in a medical group. I decided to contact her and ask her if she could be my mentor because her field of expertise was closer to what I wanted my topic to be.
2) A Conceptual Framework for Quality of Care - Ali Mohammad Mosadeghrad has been the most useful article because Dr. Ali Mohammad Mosadeghrad and a team of content analysts look at the many components and aspects of healthcare and develop a fundamental guideline/framework that every medical practice should follow. Their research looks at the impact of a good administration, policy makers, suppliers, aesthetics of the hospital, and individual doctors. This article gives me a lot to work with in terms of finding new research.

Hopefully not all doctors are like THIS...
Terrifying Doctors' Confessions
When thinking of what I could post for this extra blog post, this video was the first thing that came to my mind. Although it's not completely in par with my topic, it gets you thinking about how many doctors are like the ones that commented in the video. Cheers!

Blog 2: Summer Mentorship
1. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16nMvGQtfUc-D9RjPC4mtB-PNHDN7iQ9_SgRP6vJ9r78/edit?usp=sharing
2. I did my summer mentorship at the Chaparral Medical Group, Claremont. My mentor is Alexis Berger, who's office number is (909)-621-3479
3. How can I adjust my essential question to better fit my experience at the summer mentorship?
What kind of medical information would I be able to acquire at the medical group?
Would a mentorship at the medical group be beneficial to my senior project?
Because my essential question is adjusted to fit with my mentorship, would a mentorship at the medical group lead to an interesting essential question?
4. The most important things I gained from this mentorship are the connections. I met new people that have connections into the medical field. This makes finding interviewees for senior project easier.
5. After doing my mentorship I decided that I was going to commit to the medical field as my topic for the senior project. I want to focus on the aspect of patient care in my project. Although the work that they gave me at the medical group was repetitive, however I was able to watch the interactions between the doctor, the nurses, and their patients. After watching these interactions I knew what my essential question was going to be. "What is the best way to improve patient care in a medical office?"

2) What questions do you have that haven't been answered about senior project?
This project seemed as though it could have been done in a month or two. Why is so much time spent on it?
Can all internship hours be completed over the summer?
3) What was the most important part of the senior project based on what you are seeing in the 2-hour presentations?
The most important part of the senior presentation is to make sure your presentation is interesting, informative, and engaging. All of these will contribute to the quality of the presentation and the feelings that come after. If you knew what you were talking about, then you'll be confident that you got a good grade. If people tell you good things about your presentation, then it'll add to this feeling.
4) What topic are you considering doing and why?
I am considering a topic in the medical field, specifically pediatrics. Mainly because that is about the only option I have when it comes to choosing a topic in the medical field.
5) What are you doing for your summer mentor ship?
If all goes according to plan, then I should have a mentor ship at Pomona Pediatrics. I would be mentoring a pediatrician.
